Hadrian's Wall
Hadrians Wall Path was opened in 2002 and has proved an
immediate success with walkers form the UK and abroad. The route follows
the line of Hadrian's wall, constructed by Roman emperor Hadrianus
between AD 120 and 128 to protect the northern extreme of the Roman
Empire.
It crosses the country from coast to coast from Wallsend,
near Newcastle, through the rolling border countryside of Northumberland,
continues to the historic city of Carlisle and finally the flat plains of
the Solway Coast.

Walkers interested in completing the 84
mile route along Hadrian’s Wall during 2006 please contact David Scott
(see newsletter for contact details).
Please
note that David has decided not to proceed with this long distance
walk, due to the fact that 22 miles between Heddon-on-the-Wall and
Milecastle 33, the route stays beside the fairly busy B6138 as detailed
on the following website -
http://www.sherpavan.com; this also does not include
the first stage of the walk through Newcastle Upon Tyne which I
understand is also on a concrete pathway.
