The Public Car Park by the Bull Inn at Wheathamsted AL4 8BS, GR 178 141

9.5 miles

David has offered a longer walk than usual of 9.5 miles, from the Public Car Park by the Bull Inn at Wheathamsted AL4 8BS, GR 178 141. Please use the Public Car Park, as we are not having lunch at this pub.

Although a longer walk than usual, its worth the extra effort, as the walk visits two of the three Ayots (Ayot Green and Ayot St Lawrence), and includes parts of the Lea Valley Walk, The Ayot Greenway path (a dismantled railway line) and The Hertfordshire Way. Other points of interest on the walk include Brocket Hall and the two Churches near Shaws Corner.

Due to Mothers Day the Brocket Arms are NOT doing bar meals, and their Resturant is fully booked. Please could you bring a packed lunch.

WE will stop for a drink at the Brocket Arms at Ayot St Lawrence during the walk. Boots on 10.15 for 10:30am start please.

"Old Hunter's Lodge" Pub at Whipsnade, Beds LU6 2LN

4.75 miles

Varied walk up Icknield Way to/along Dunstable Downs with open views, looping down the quiet valley behind, then climbing back to Whipsnade Heath, finishing back up to Whipsnade green, to The Hunter's Lodge pub(venue for lunch). Red kites, toy kites, gliders, hang-gliders usually seen.

Ian has now moved the starting point/parking location for this walk. The walk will now start from the car park of the "Old Hunter's Lodge" pub/restaurant, The Cross Roads, Whipsnade, Beds, LU6 2LN, where we will be lunching afterwards. This pub/restauraunt is about 300 yards below the Whipsnade Tree Catheral cark park (original starting point) and a similar distance above the main Whipsnade cross roads.

Please park close together at the back of their car park, to minimize the space we occupy. This time, we'll be putting in our group's lunch order before leaving for our walk, to give the pub lunch numbers for easier service when we return. The wide bar menu is up on their Web site at http://www.old-hunters.com/page16.htm, - you can choose from home. Food was good, & prices fair, last time here.

Boots on 10.45 for 11.00 hrs start.
